It’s been two weeks since I was given the shocking news that Chris, my life partner of 15 years, had passed in our home in East Point, Georgia. And I apologize to those of you just now hearing of this tragedy, but it has been an extremely hard couple of weeks for me even with the tremendous love and support of close friends and family — all of whom want to protect me and shelter me from questions, emails and text messages in order to give me some time to try and heal. I am not saying that I am ready as yet for an onslaught of any of those as the event still feels too fresh and unreal to me, but I thought I should pass along the information as I have gotten a few questions in the past couple of days asking how “we” are doing. I wish I could talk to you all individually, but, well, I just can’t.

To those who knew, thank you again for your help, prayers, thoughts, and generosity. I would never have made it through the last couple of weeks without you.

Dear Joanne, I know exactly what you are saying, it is so hard to lose someone you love so much. Time will heal. It is so very sad, but you will get through this. I ;understand how you really cannot talk to people individually, that is something I cannot do right now and I do hope people will understand that. You are one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and I feel so bad for you. Take care of yourself. Love you. Sandy and Bobby. xoxoxoxo

Joanne,Have heard great things about you from Barb Pompa. Chris and I were fraternity brothers together at St. Francis. We continued the friendship in northern Virginia. Chris had a great spirit and kept us laughing for many years. I remember in the fraternity house we had run out of food one Saturday night. I walked into the kitchen and there was Chris grilling a shoe. He knew how to take the obvious and make a statement about it. While we had not been in touch for many years my memories of Chris are good ones and I hope that in time you will only remember the joy he brought you. V/RJim Morhard

Well Jim I have you beat (and I hope you are feeling ok these days). Freshman year Chris and I brought a gross of firecrackers to college. Every once and a while we would throw a firecracker under our next door neighbors door, and every once and a while they would do likewise. One morning thinking I was taking a nap after 2nd period class, Mark A threw one under our door. But I had taken all my laundry to the laundromat (ALL my laundry). The firecracker was a fizzer, caught the rug on fire, and the room was destroyed. While the idiot volunteers were throwing the charred remains out the second story window, Chris asked McElroy what As****e’s room was it that was destroyed. McElroy counted from the end and said "I think it’s your room Chris. He cooked more than a shoe that day, becasue while I had all my clothes in my laudrybag, he lost everything but what he was wearing. At the end of the year we argued why we were not getting our $10 room deposit back (eac), and if you know Chris, he would not stand for it. We got or deposits back.
