South Africa Update: At the Roxy

Shortly after I posted yesterday I had a phone call from our intrepid explorers. They were sounding quite happy (and slightly tipsy) having just flown in to Cape Town and were settling into a “beautiful and ultra modern apartment” that John owns in Muizenberg. Dad made me repeat over and over that the Rangers match was indeed over and that they had won. Not sure why he wouldn’t believe it the first four times I said it, but he was even happier after it finally sunk in. And, so was I! He said they were going to wander around the “young and hip” area for a while. “For a while” in Scots, in case you didn’t know, means till you find the closest pub. ;0)

So Susan sends this message to me this morning: “sch 4 girls only surfers is called the roxy.”
I read it and read it, over and over, and I’m still confused and beginning to wonder why she was drinking already, at just 8 in the morning. So I decided to type “school for girls south africa roxy” into Google and lo and behold, I got the Roxy Surf School in Muizenberg, or simply “Berg” as the hip call it there. Well, sure enough, it’s a surfing school just for girls (of all ages). Who knew?!

Today’s weather in “Berg” is 81??F (27??C), partly cloudy and 61% humidity. Apparently that’s gorgeous weather if you like that sort of thing.

Last night they roughed it once again with fresh fish that “was swimming in ocean earlier that day” and South African white wine under the full moon. We had that same moon, but no wine and no fish here. Hmph.
Tidbits
  • Light switches all turn down not up, and are always outside of bathroom — illegal inside. “Imagine the havoc u can reek on ur siblings”
  • “Robots” are traffic lights
They went to the top of Table Mountain today. The views must be amazing, well, Susan actually said they were, so there you go. The mountain is called such because of its long flat top. It overlooks Cape Town and has a cableway that takes you to the top … or you could hike it, but really …
Here are some photos I found on the web: Table Mountain.
They’ll be in “Berg” another day and then will head to John and Janis’ home in McGregor (nice name eh?), home of South Africa’s McGregor Wine. Something tells me there will be more text messages with “we drank wine under the half moon” then the crescent moon, etc. All the power to them I say!
This has been your South Africa Update.
