Just got back from my trip to Clydebank…and what a time we had…in beautiful weather. Five of the Swan Street family were together for a rare reunion. Only Linda missing. It’s drying out time now!
We had a wonderful time down in Old Kilpatrick where Aunt Margaret now lives. Uncle Stewart and Milna were there so we went over so many old stories. Margaret made enough food to feed Ethiopia but we did our best to scarf it down. It was so nice to see them all doing so well. They were thrilled to bits that we were all there.
I also went up the Kilpatrick Hills to find the house Grampa grew up in. It is called Whole Cottage on Whole Farm, once owned by Lord Blantyre (Grampa’s dad was a gamekeeper there). Dougie Filchie now owns it and was kind enough to let us look around the property and give us some background on the house, which was built around 1850.
I’ve attached some photos: 1). Grampa & Grandma with Grampa’s sister from western Canada at the old house they grew up in. 2). Eric and I at the house. You can see the stonework matches the old photo. 3). Aunt Margaret…90, and as brightly dressed as ever. 4). Uncle Stewart…looking very well at 88. 5). Group including Milna and her future daughter-in-law. 6). My family: Myra, Robert, Allan’s wife Ann, Eric’s wife Margaret, Eric, myself and Allan.
I’ll send some more photos later. Love to all,
David
